I decided to make this post because in times like these it’s important to honor the works of those who are no longer with us and learn from them. I only know of him as a director in film. Having seen his work throughout my life, it’s unfortunate to hear that he’s no longer with us.

Upon hearing of his complications I felt it only right to go back and watch the mark he made upon this world. Some on Twitter even shared films that I’m sure a lot of homes had, like Boyz in the Hood, Poetic Justice and Higher Learning among many others.

John Singleton as far as I can remember made films that touched sensitive areas in our society, highlighting Black America in particular. Scrolling through my feed I seen the title Rosewood. Now I haven’t seen the film before so I immediately went searching online.

It documents the true story of what is known as the Rosewood Massacre. There were other incidences like it but John Singleton decided and brought this tale to screen.

With that said, I wish the brother John Singleton safe travels and may his soul rest in peace.
